How BookMeter handles your data — and why we handle very little of it.
Last updated: March 2026
BookMeter ("we", "our", "the site") is committed to operating with minimal data collection. This policy describes what data is collected, how it is used, and what rights you hold under applicable data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The calculator tools on BookMeter run entirely in your browser. No input you provide to any tool — book page counts, reading speed, budget figures, session preferences — is transmitted to our servers or stored in any database. These calculations happen locally on your device.
BookMeter may collect the following limited categories of data:
BookMeter uses one functional cookie: a localStorage entry named "ck" that records whether you have accepted this privacy notice. This is a first-party, session-preference cookie. It does not track you across sites and does not expire automatically.
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking cookies, or analytics cookies that identify individual users.
BookMeter loads fonts from Google Fonts. Google may log the request for font files, subject to Google's own privacy policy. No other third-party services are loaded by default. Images are served from Unsplash's CDN; Unsplash may log standard access data.
Where any personal data is processed, the legal basis is legitimate interest in operating and securing the website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). No consent is required for the limited server log data described above. You may object to this processing; however, such an objection will necessarily preclude your use of the service.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable data protection law, you hold the following rights:
Given that we collect minimal identifiable data, most of these rights will have limited practical application. Requests may be submitted via the contact form on this page.
BookMeter is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided data to BookMeter, use the contact form to request its deletion.
We implement standard technical and organisational measures to protect data in transit and at rest, including HTTPS encryption for all connections. Given the minimal data we hold, the residual risk of a data breach affecting personal information is low.
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any revisions. Continued use of BookMeter after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
For privacy-related enquiries, use the contact form on this page. We aim to respond to all substantive requests within 10 business days.
